OREGANO OIL has powerful antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal and antiparasitic properties and may aid in the ability to balance metabolism and strengthen the vital centers of the body. According to D. Gary Young, N.D.'s book Aromatherapy, the Essential Beginning
The oregano oil may also be used internally
(taken under the tongue), to infiltrate the body with oregano's antiseptic
healing properties. This Oregano Oil is from PURE Oregano. Always dilute Oregano Oil 50-50 with a mixing oil when first using (it is a very warm oil). At first, start by using small amounts of the oil.
According to Julia Lawless, author of The
Encyclopedia of Essential Oils, the vast majority of oregano is mislabeled,
because it is derived from a thyme, that is Spanish thyme. Thyme is inedible.
The majority of the oils available commercially are derived from non-oregano
species.
"Oil of Oregano blends well with Basil, Fennel, Geranium, Lemon-grass, Myrtle, Pine, Thyme, and Rosemary." D. Gary Young, N.D.'s book Aromatherapy, the Essential Beginning, states that oregano oil has powerful antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic properties and may aid in the ability to balance metabolism and strengthen vital centers of the body.
Oil of oregano is a potent germ killer. Jean Valnet, in his book The Practice of Aromatherapy, describes how the oil of oregano is so strong that it is capable of sterilizing sewage. Research published in the International Journal of Food Microbiology, found that oil of oregano is an excellent germicide capable of killing a wide range of fungi and bacteria.
Oil of Oregano is also a powerfid painkiller.
An article published in Phytotherapy Research describes how oregano
oil superceded anti-inflammatory drugs in reversing pain and inflammation
and is nearly as powerful as morphine as a painkiller. As published by Sarer, researchers describe its antiseptic powers as ‘remarkable.’
Dr. Diane Horne of Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, told the 98th general assembly of the American Society of Microbiology that the discovery of the impact of the oils on cells such as Streptococcus pneumoniae occurred through a bit of serendipity. A co-researcher was spraying aromatic oils in the laboratory. “When I looked at the S. pneumoniae that I was preparing for another experiment, the cells were just falling apart,” Horne reported. Horne and co-worker Sue Chao of the Young Living Essential Oil Company of Payson, Utah, evaluated the lytic properties of 74 different essential oils, eventually testing nine of them in a series of experiments to determine the impact of each oil on disease-causing microbes. “Optimal results occurred with oregano, thyme, and rosewood; intermediate inhibition of microbe growth was seen with cinnamon oil and clove oil,” Horne said at a poster presentation at the general meeting of the American Society for Microbiology. According to Horne, the oils also demonstrated efficacy against E. coli and several species of fungi. But she said that the oils did not seem to adversely affect Staphylococcus aureus. While the oils appeared to work in test tube
and Petri dish experiments, Horne said that, "It is too soon to say
if the oils will have an impact against S. pneumoniae in people."
She commented that the use of aromatherapy with the effective oils would
not be harmful to a patient with S. pneumoniae infection, and it might
even prove helpful in controlling the infection.
