Why Does it Work?
The plant enzymes Protease, Amylase, Lipase and Cellulase are able to break down a wide range of substances. The enzymes act to dissolve secretions, allowing the body to reabsorb them. They can also break down allergenic particles that may be the cause of some of the congestion. The herbs reduce the tissue swelling and congestion. The result is an open and smooth airflow that may eliminate snoring.
What causes snoring?
Snoring is caused by a partial blockage of the upper breathing airways There may be a blockage in the nose, mouth, palate or throat. The most common blockages are due to mucous or swollen tissues inside the nose, throat and sinuses. There may be congestion and phlegm, accumulating from lying down, contributing to the blockage.
Other causes of snoring?
People with allergies or who are obese are very likely to snore. Allergies can cause swelling and inflammation of the membranes which line the inside of the nose and throat. There may also be allergy or infection related post-nasal drip, mucous and sinus congestion. When the breathing passages are narrowed or obstructed with discharges, snoring may occur. Obese people generally have more difficulty breathing when lying down; the increased effort to breath can cause audible breathing sounds. Alcohol may relax the throat tissues causing vibrations and snoring.
More than just an annoyance!
Snoring is a condition that has been associated with serious medical problems. Snorers have a much higher risk of heart attacks high blood pressure and strokes. Snoring also produces sleep disturbances in the person snoring and their mate that can lead to increased anxiety and fatigue.
Medical authorities estimate that up to 40% of the population are chronic, regular snorers (persons with allergies are at higher risk). Snoring increases in severity and frequency as we age. More than half of the people over age 50 are chronic snorers. The tissue elasticity in the nose and throat may decrease with age.
